Did you ever think of someone as the right one for you? Or did someone think that you are the one for him or her and that in some way, you’ve learned about it? I want to believe that in either way, love has been awaken in you. And that, in one way or another, you have considered it…thought about it and perhaps prayed about it. Tada… you are into it.
First, let us look into the situation where you thought of someone as the right one for you. The desires have been conceived. You may, in some way, affirm in yourself that he/she is the one with whom you want to spend the rest of your life. What is now your attitude? If you are a woman, definitely, you cannot initiate courtship or any move to tell him that you are considering him. Women should wait and should never make any move. Instead, woman should pray and confess to God the cries of her heart. On the other hand, if you are a man, you are called to lead. But you should not be making any move or even be noisy about it if there is no clear confirmation from the Lord. The Lord, our Father, will confirm these things in you if it His will.
However, it is possible that this attraction is nothing but a false alarm. You woke one morning and ... you don’t like the person at all. This happens when you were just attracted to him or her for reasons that do not really last or for no reason at all – you just like him/her at one time and you concluded that it is love.
Joshua Harris, the author of I Kissed Dating Goodbye, said in his book that we must look for qualities that matters at the age of fifty. If you like someone just because he or she is good-looking, that attraction will last for as long as the physical beauty is there. When proof of aging begins to show – hair loss or baldness, wrinkles and unwanted curves – love may also diminish.
If you are not going to buy, why shop? You cannot just like a person for no reason. And as Christians, we are not supposed to pray for a person for lousy reasons. But when considering someone, you should ask....Does he/she complement you that you will be more effective for the Lord and His glory? Will he/she help you pursue an intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ?
False alarms can also harm you and the person you are considering especially if he/she learned about it. I pray that we may bring to God these issues of the heart and learn to submit and wait on Him because in God, there can be no false alarms.
